This post must have come from Len. How about the old country German version of Pok-randt?

While I enjoy the debate I don't think either of these is "technically correct". The proper/original german spelling and pronunciation would likely have been :
pock-rrrandt (a throat clearing "r")
This is not used much today except in german speaking environs. I have met some pockrandts from Germany who still use the original spelling and pronunciation.
This would also be my answer to Daniel Pokrandt from Anchorage Alaska who, in the guest book asks "when did the D come into the last name". It is more a matter of the "D" and also the "C" having been dropped by most families when they relocated to english speaking countries.

When I was a Pokrant (I'm now a Frank) I always said poke-rant. I always found it easier when giving my name aloud to someone.
